Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa said Thursday that she requested a postponement of any action on the possible sale of Boca Chica State Park to Elon Musk's SpaceX until after she takes office in January. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission had been set to discuss the sale on Thursday, but the agenda item was removed at Hinojosa's request, she said.
According to Texas Monthly, which first reported the proposal last month, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is considering selling about 1,300 acres of the park in Cameron County to SpaceX so Musk can expand his nearby Starbase rocket facility. The possible sale drew criticism from environmentalists.
Hinojosa called the park "such an important resource." She said she is open to working with Musk's companies but that any deal must be "on our terms," she said in a CNN interview with Jake Tapper.
