Trinity Episcopal School's boys cross country program will have two teams at the Texas Youth State Championship & USATF Gulf Association Cross Country Meet on Saturday in Houston, at Nottingham Park. The 13-14 year-old team will run the 4K event, and the sixth-grade team will run the 3K. Each team has a chance to qualify for nationals, which will be held in Louisiana in December.
The team has an undefeated season so far. Its wins include meets at Shiner and Goliad, the St. Joseph area championships at Coleto Creek Park, and the Coastal Bend Middle School Championships in Victoria. The story says this is the first time the program has qualified for state.
Trinity head coach Shannon Hicks said the team has talented athletes, most of whom are sixth graders. "They train, they are having fun, they've put in the time and they have great dedication to the sport," Hicks said. Hicks said Tripp Kurtz is the team's top runner.
