Golfweek magazine reports that the Charles Schwab Challenge, held at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, is not expected to be on the PGA Tour's 2028 schedule. According to the report, officials with the club and sponsor Charles Schwab are considering moving the event to the senior tour's Charles Schwab Championship Series. The club had no comment on the report. The PGA has not said when it will announce its plans, though a source close to the club said an announcement could come soon.

Golfweek cited money as one factor. The Fort Worth area hosts both the Colonial event and the CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, and the magazine said only one was likely to be selected. It reported that the Byron Nelson sponsor, CJ Group of South Korea, offered more money for a larger purse.

Starting in 2028, the PGA Tour will split its schedule into two tiers. The Championship Series will have purses of at least $20 million. The Challenger Series will have purses of at least $4 million. The Colonial event's 2026 purse was $9.9 million.
