A new splash pad at Gregory Park in Winnie is nearing completion. The free, family-friendly facility is a private-public partnership between Chambers County, The Great Outdoors Fund (TGOF) and 1PointFive, a subsidiary of Occidental.

Chambers County provided funding for the splash pad. Funding from 1PointFive, which is developing the Bluebonnet Sequestration Hub in Chambers County, allowed the county to add an upgraded concrete foundation and spray features. The county said the changes make the facility larger, more inclusive and more durable.

Stakeholders and volunteers gathered Wednesday, Oct. 14, to finish the splash pad and clean up the park. TGOF Founder and CEO Lori McCullough said the project's impact will be measured in the years ahead. Precinct 1 Chambers County Commissioner Jimmy Gore also spoke about the project. The area around the park has limited access to free outdoor recreation, and the splash pad is designed to help meet that need.
