Two men are in custody after a man was fatally shot at an apartment complex in north Houston on Thursday night, police said. The shooting happened around 9 p.m.
Police said the victim was sitting in his vehicle when two men approached and began talking to him. When the victim tried to drive away, one of the men opened fire, police said. The victim crashed into a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses told police they heard seven or eight gunshots.
Investigators used surveillance video to identify the suspects. Police believed the two men may have gone into an apartment at a nearby complex. Officers set up a perimeter, and a specialized patrol support team called for them to come out. Both men came out and were taken into custody. Police also brought a woman and a 5-year-old child out safely. Neither was hurt.
Homicide investigators are handling the case. Police have not released the names of the victim or the two men in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
