Eight-year-old Macey Kate Glick of Fairfield chose to spend her birthday giving back instead of asking for gifts. On Sept. 24, she celebrated at the Limestone County Fairgrounds in Groesbeck with a Barrel Racing Birthday Bash, according to the story.

Macey designed belt buckles that she gave to the first-place winners in each youth division. She also raised $500 through a side pot, which she donated to LARAS House Animal Shelter in Mexia. Macey said she chose the shelter because it was the closest one and because she has a long-standing love for animals of all kinds.

Macey presented the donation to Sandy, a member of LARAS House. "It's so heart warming when we have donations coming in, but especially today from such a young little girl," Sandy said. The shelter relies heavily on donations to keep helping animals in need.
