A funeral service for Jasmine Henson, known to friends and family as Alyx, and her four children was held Friday at Main Street Baptist Church in Canton. Family friend Thomas Rucker said the church was filled with flowers, loved ones, classmates and neighbors. Rucker, a former teacher of Henson's who also works at the church, said seeing five coffins was painful for the family.
Henson's partner and their 7-year-old son, who escaped the flames last Wednesday morning, attended the service. Rucker said the funeral felt like a homecoming in a small town.
The loss has been felt across Canton ISD, where all of the children except Henson's youngest, 3-year-old Avrii, attended school. Classes were dismissed early Friday so the community could pay respects. After the service, the family went to the cemetery for a private goodbye.
