Tyler High School will offer a mariachi class during the 2027–28 school year, according to Dean of Instruction April Griffin. Students can choose it as their fine arts elective when they meet with counselors to plan their schedules.

Caldwell orchestra director John Floyd said the middle school's mariachi program has existed for about seven years. He has taught the class for three years and credited the students with its growth. Floyd said the group performed at a Hispanic Heritage Month event and a Día de los Muertos festival in downtown Tyler.

Eighth grader Nicolas Moreno said he enjoys sharing his Mexican culture through music. Seventh grader Katie Gonzalez said the festival performance gave the group a wider audience. Eighth grader Nathan Diaz said his grandfather inspired him to learn guitar, and he hopes to keep playing with his classmates.
