Voters across West Texas weighed in Tuesday on federal, statewide and local races in the 2026 midterm elections. The U.S. Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico is one contest that could help determine which party controls Congress. The governor's race between incumbent Republican Greg Abbott and Democrat Gina Hinojosa also drew attention.
In the Permian Basin, voters chose among Midland ISD school board seats, along with county-level seats and city council members in the Odessa area. In the Big Bend, Brewster County voters considered creating a new Emergency Services District, and Jeff Davis County voters selected a new county judge. Many local races had only one candidate running unopposed.
Brewster County's elections office said a candidate who dropped out after the deadline to have names removed from ballots still appeared on the ballot. Results for local races were still being reported Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
