Howard Payne University students, faculty and staff in Brownwood packed a shipping container with desks, chairs, tables, computers and other materials. The items are being sent to William V.S. Tubman University in Harper, Liberia.

The effort coincided with a visit from Tubman's president, Dr. Olu Menjay, who spent several days on campus and spoke at Wednesday's Chapel. Menjay said limited resources make it difficult for Tubman to provide the facilities and furnishings its academic community needs. "We are very, very grateful for this container of hope," he said.

HPU president Dr. Cory Hines said the partnership began with a small conversation a little over a year ago. He said he hopes the items are a blessing to students and staff at Tubman. Hines also said the university has a responsibility to use its resources to benefit others, which he linked to HPU's value of stewardship.
