The National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame in Fort Worth opened its $19 million expansion on Nov. 4, with a ribbon cutting attended by city and museum leaders and country singer Miranda Lambert. Museum director Pat Riley said the museum is about "honoring women who had the courage to do things differently."
Spokesperson Julie Bryant said the expansion was needed because the museum did not have enough room to display its nearly 6,000 objects. The city of Fort Worth committed $6.5 million to the project a few months before the expansion was publicly announced in summer 2025. The city owns the building, which is in the Cultural District and opened in 2002.
The expansion adds nearly 18,000 square feet. It includes a Western store, art galleries, an event space that holds up to 250 people, and a fully operational carousel with 18 horses. The museum was first established in 1975 in Hereford, Texas.
