Families spending Halloween in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital had the chance to take part in a festive photo shoot. Parents chose from a set of Halloween costumes designed by registered nurses Hannah Williams, Carly Bell and Emily Britt.

The costumes included ice cream cones, donuts, strawberries, superheroes and jack-o'-lanterns. Christy Adams, NICU manager at the hospital, said moments of joy can make a difference for families during a NICU stay. She said the shoot let parents step away, even briefly, from the stress and uncertainty of hospitalization.

Adams said creating memories like these is one of the ways the unit supports families through their journey.
