A ribbon-cutting and groundbreaking event at I.B. Magee Jr. Beach Park in Port Aransas has been postponed again. It was scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, but officials called it off that morning because of the threat of rain. No new date has been announced.
The event was to include two ribbon cuttings and a groundbreaking. One ribbon cutting is for a recently completed 2,500-foot boardwalk that loops around a 1.5-acre storm water retention pond and includes three shaded kiosks. A second ribbon cutting is planned for the remodeled concession area at Horace Caldwell Pier.
A groundbreaking was planned for a veterans' memorial next to the boardwalk. Brent Chesney, commissioner of Nueces County Precinct 4, is spearheading the project, and the Nueces County Commissioners Court has approved $325,000 for it. The memorial is expected to include a 60-foot flagpole with an American flag, signs for each branch of the service, pavers, lighting, low walls for sitting and reflecting, and a parking area.
Work to install 30 new RV spaces at the park is still ongoing.
