The Devils River Conservancy (DRC) will host two free educational events on Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7, in the downtown and San Felipe areas, according to The 830 Times.

The weekend starts with a free screening of the documentary "Deep in the Heart 2: Texas Rivers" at 7 p.m. Friday at Rotary Pocket Park, 614 S. Main St. The film focuses on the natural resources of Texas rivers. Sergio Lopez, DRC project coordinator, said the idea came from DRC members who know the film's producers. Popcorn will be provided, and Lopez encouraged attendees to bring lawn chairs and refreshments.

Lopez said the DRC has been working to remove Arundo donax, also known as carrizo cane, an invasive plant, from the banks of San Felipe Creek. He said the goal is to make the banks "more beautiful and accessible" for visitors.

On Saturday, the DRC will hold a free BioBlitz with educational activities for all ages at the Dr. Alfredo Gutierrez Jr. Amphitheater, 1101 W. De La Rosa St., from 9 a.m. to noon. Lopez said attendees must download an app called iNaturalist.
