Fort Bend ISD has apologized after security guards at a polling location inside James Bowie Middle School removed election signs and told poll workers and supporters to leave. The district said the guards went too far, and that the guards will no longer be allowed to work security at school facilities used as polling locations. The guards involved are also receiving corrective action.

Linda Morgan said she was outside the polling location greeting voters and holding a sign supporting her son, State Representative Matt Morgan, when a guard told her to leave. She said the guard was not aggressive but was firm. Morgan said she was more than 100 feet from the polling location.

Jennifer Cantu, chairwoman of the Fort Bend County Democratic Party, said party members had a similar confrontation. Cantu said the guard told them the signs would be removed. She said poll workers are permitted two signs per polling location and that a poll worker asked whether the party could keep the signs, but the guard said they would be destroyed.
