Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico has decried a "corruption crisis" that he says is affecting the U.S. political system. He spoke Tuesday in Lubbock, about an hour after President Donald Trump finished a speech across town.

Trump was in Texas for the third time in a month. He is backing Republican Ken Paxton in a push to keep the state in GOP hands. Democrats have not won a statewide election in more than three decades.

Talarico said he is an underdog against powerful forces, including Trump and Elon Musk. Musk is funding attack ads against Talarico on Paxton's behalf. Trump has portrayed Talarico as too liberal for Texas, focusing on cultural issues.
