Flower Mound hopes to build a medical district in southern Denton County with hospitals, clinics and education centers. The project, called the Furst Ranch Medical Life Science Center, would be built within the Furst Ranch development on the town's west side. The town says it needs state funding to move forward.
According to Brandi Bird, the town's legislative consultant, Flower Mound is seeking $20 million in state funding for the project. The town sought $15 million during the 2025 legislative session. The town is working with State Senator Tan Parker and Texas Tech University Chancellor Brandon Creighton on the request.
The plan includes a Texas Tech University Health Science Center campus, several hospitals, a hotel, retail space and a range of housing. Ray Watson, the town's director of economic development, said the goal is to bring a substantial medical education and research presence to the area. Texas Tech said the campus would likely offer pharmacy, nursing, medical laboratory and mental health programs.
