Hardin High School senior Isabelle Marie Avila is hosting Find Your Texas Patriot on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. in the high school library. The program invites residents to learn about their own history and heritage. Avila is president and co-founder of the Juana Navarro Alsbury Chapter of Children of the Republic of Texas.

Avila will describe the Children of the Republic of Texas and what the group does. She will also share her family history alongside her grandmother, Michele Williamson, a member of the Franklin Hardin Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Williamson will provide professional genealogy help so students and families can check whether they have a direct ancestor who lived in Texas during the revolution. Some attendees may qualify to join either group.

Avila said knowing one's history is important. Her own patriot is Jon Cole, her fifth great-grandfather, who moved to Texas in 1828 and lived in the Cow Bayou community.
