Cristal San Miguel said the community mailbox in the Sunrise Pines neighborhood of northeast Harris County has not received mail since April. She said her nearest post office is now a 20- to 25-minute drive away.

San Miguel said she contacted the post office and her homeowners association. She said she was told repairs were needed but got mixed signals about who is responsible for them. The HOA had not responded yet, according to the report.

USPS said the current condition of the mail receptacle does not allow for secure delivery and that more than a dozen homes are affected. Local postal management is working to resolve the issue, but USPS did not give a timeframe. It said the timing "can depend on the current supply of replacement parts." San Miguel said she is still waiting for insurance checks she needs to pay a dentist, and estimated the bill at almost $4,000.
