Two free, family-friendly events will take place in downtown Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 31. Both begin at 4 p.m. The Halloween celebration at Main Street Garden Park runs until 7 p.m. The Día de los Muertos Parade and Festival at Dallas City Hall Plaza runs until 10 p.m., with the parade starting at 7 p.m.
Downtown Dallas Inc. is hosting its eighth annual Trick or Treat on Downtown Streets event, which will offer treats, live entertainment and activities for children and families. Attendees may wear Halloween costumes. According to Visit Dallas, H-E-B, Central Market and Joe V's Smart Shop are sponsoring the event. The seventh annual Dallas Día de los Muertos festival will include live music, food, arts and crafts, vendors and traditional Mexican cultural displays. Organizers encourage attendees to wear clothing that honors the holiday, such as skeletal Catrina and Catrín costumes.
The traditional holiday is observed on November 1 and 2, but Dallas is holding its downtown celebration on Halloween. Admission to both events is free, though food and other purchases may cost extra. Visitors should plan for downtown traffic, parking and possible street restrictions.
