Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico is working to strengthen his ties with Black voters before Election Day. He is running against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. Democrats have not won statewide in Texas in more than three decades, according to the report.
According to NBC News, Rep. Jasmine Crockett praised Talarico at a gathering of mostly Black activists and community members in Arlington. She called him "our amazing Senate nominee" and encouraged attendees to support Democratic candidates. In a later interview with NBC News, when asked whether Talarico was doing enough to mobilize Black voters, Crockett gave a more reserved answer, saying, "It is my hope."
Crockett said that candidates in other states have invited her to campaign with them, but Talarico has not extended the same invitation. She also said a senior member of her former campaign offered to help Talarico's operation repeat the Black voter turnout she generated in the Democratic primary. She said the offer had not been accepted.
