According to unofficial Hays County election reporting, Amanda Rodriguez has defeated Ryan Thomason for San Marcos mayor. Rodriguez, the current Place 6 City Council member, received 72.86% of the vote to Thomason's 27.14%, with all precincts and Election Day locations reporting. Thomason is a former two-term council member.
In a statement, Rodriguez said she is honored and grateful to be mayor. She said she will serve as mayor for all residents, including those who did not vote for her or who disagree with her.
A special election is also underway to fill Rodriguez's remaining Place 6 council term. According to unofficial early county reporting, Lisa Prewitt led with 51.88% of the vote, followed by Juan Miguel Arredondo with 35.46% and Bill Miller with 12.66%. A candidate must receive more than 50% of the vote to win outright; otherwise, the top two advance to a runoff. All results are unofficial until canvassed.
