Incumbent Trey Wharton, a Republican, held a large lead over Democrat Andie Ho in the race for Texas House District 12, according to KBTX. With 91.1% of votes counted, Wharton had 69.7% of the vote. The district includes portions of Brazos, Grimes, Madison, Robertson, Walker and Washington counties.
Wharton, a Huntsville businessman, first won the seat in 2024, defeating Democrat Dee Howard Mullins. Ho, a first-generation American, described herself as a political outsider. Her campaign focused on pathways to citizenship, universal healthcare and strong public education.
Wharton twice received the endorsement of Gov. Greg Abbott. His campaign focused on border control, the Second Amendment, support for law enforcement and investment in rural health.
