Republican Chris Gober has won the race for Texas' 10th Congressional District, according to the Associated Press on Tuesday night. Gober received 161,425 votes (53.8%), while Democrat Caitlin Rourk received 138,832 votes (46.2%).
The district spans roughly 200 miles and 13 counties, from the Austin area into East Texas. Gober, an attorney and seventh-generation Texan, campaigned on border security and fiscal restraint. In an interview with KBTX before the election, he called Bryan-College Station the "critical anchor" of the district and pointed to Texas A&M's RELLIS Campus as a national defense asset. He also said he would work to lower input costs for farmers and ranchers, cut taxes and protect domestic agriculture from foreign competition.
The seat was held by Republican Rep. Michael McCaul, who represented the district alone since 2005 and did not seek reelection. Gober's campaign drew national attention, in part because of endorsements from Donald Trump and his role as legal counsel for Elon Musk's America PAC.
