State Rep. Caroline Fairly, a Republican, is projected to win reelection in District 87. She first won the seat in the Texas House two years ago. Fairly spent election night at home with her family while Republicans gathered at Fire Station No. 1 in Randall County for a watch party.

Fairly's district includes Potter County and seven other Texas Panhandle counties. She said voters have raised concerns about water, agriculture, public education, rural health care and property taxes. Fairly said property taxes are the biggest issue she hears about in Potter County. "Number one thing I hear voters want to feel the relief," she said.

Fairly said property tax relief would be a top priority in the next legislative session in Austin. She mentioned reducing regulatory requirements and changing the property appraisal system, such as reassessing home values less often or limiting how much appraised values can rise. She said lawmakers would need to consider those ideas, and that results across Texas could affect which proposals move forward.
