Pampa High School football has retired No. 32 to honor Zach Thomas, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who wore the number for the Harvesters. The program now gives the jersey to a different player each Friday night in the fall. The coaching staff chooses the player, based on the competitive spirit Thomas showed on the field.
Sophomore linebacker Mason Mitchell, who normally wears No. 45, is the ninth player picked to wear No. 32 in the 2026 season. He will wear it for Friday's ninth game against Canyon. Mitchell said the honor shows that the coaches have noticed his hard work. "I feel like it's a great way to honor Zach Thomas and all he did while he was here in Pampa," he said.
Mitchell also wrestles and throws the shot put and discus for the track and field team. He said he would like to play college football or wrestle, and named the University of Texas and Tech as schools he has in mind. He is interested in working in IT and possibly majoring in computer science.
