ATHENS – The Marshall Lady Mavericks volleyball team lost to the Celina Lady Bobcats in the Class 5A Division II bi-district round, ending its season. Celina won the match in three sets, 25-14, 25-11 and 25-21.
Head coach Tina Miller said the team seemed nervous and hesitant in the first two sets and figured things out in the third. Kinlee Smith led Marshall with seven kills and seven blocks. Danika Cantu had 16 digs and Addi Watkins had 11 assists.
Miller said the team had been excited since clinching a playoff spot. She said the four seniors, Cantu, Addie Fairchild, Makenna Nance and Smith, helped set the tone for the program. Miller said reaching the playoffs for the first time in five years sets a higher bar for the future.
