President Donald Trump spoke for around two hours on Tuesday afternoon at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center arena in support of Ken Paxton, who is running against James Talarico in the midterm race. Trump entered to cheers and tossed hats into the crowd, and he urged people to vote.
According to the report, Trump's speech covered several topics. He criticized Talarico's public comments on transgender people, referred to a Justice Department inquiry into alleged immigration paperwork fraud by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN5), and suggested Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) as a possible Supreme Court nominee. Much of the speech focused on Talarico.
Paxton spoke briefly, mainly about his ties to the president. State and federal officials appeared with Trump, including Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX13), Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, along with Brandon Creighton, chancellor of Texas Tech.
