Northeast Texas Community College's Adult Education program is enrolling students for free six-week GED and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes beginning July 14. Registration is by appointment only July 6-13 at the Community Resource Center, the former Mount Pleasant High School at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.
The accelerated GED NOW program covers language arts, math, science and social studies. It also includes test-taking strategies, help with the transition to college and job skills. Free GED practice tests and exam vouchers are available for qualifying participants. Students can choose between in-person classes in Pittsburg or virtual evening classes.
The free ESL program helps adults build confidence in speaking, writing, listening and understanding English, and also teaches basic computer skills. In-person classes are held at the Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Participants must be at least 17 years old and meet enrollment requirements.
