Brady Dental provided free dental treatments to veterans and active-duty service members at its fifth annual Smiles for Freedom event in Amarillo. More than 70 local veterans received free cleanings, extractions, dentures and other services.
Dr. Jordan Short, a dentist with Brady Dental Group, said the practice saw a large need in the community for veterans' dental work, and many patients were in pain or had infections. The practice offered free screenings in September and October to help staff choose treatments. Dr. Laura Turner, also a Brady Dental Group dentist, said the day included extractions, fillings and impressions for dentures and partials.
Organizers said the VA helped connect veterans with the event and referred them to doctors. Lone Star Oral Surgery also partnered to provide free extractions. Dr. Daniel Ripperger of Lone Star Oral Surgery said the event was a way to thank people who have served. Brady Dental said it plans to continue serving veterans in the years ahead.
