UT San Antonio is reviewing a student's conduct after she recited a poem that referred to the assassination of Charlie Kirk during a campus "Pick Up the Mic" event, the university told The Dallas Express. Video of the exchange circulated online.
Christian Collins, who took part in the event, wrote on X that a student had read a poem celebrating the assassination and that she had told him he was brave to be there without his neck covered. He said he would pray for her.
The University of Texas System said in a joint statement from Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife and Chancellor John Zerwas that it would not tolerate the incitement of violence or threats of violence, and that UT San Antonio would handle the incident consistent with the law. The statement did not announce a disciplinary action. University spokesman Joe Izbrand said the school is reviewing the matter through its student conduct processes and cannot comment further on the individual student, citing federal student privacy law.
