Vice President JD Vance spoke at a Republican rally in Weatherford on Thursday, October 29, urging Texans to support Republican candidates before the November 3 midterm elections. The event was held at JRJ Construction and included U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill. The rally focused on Republican turnout, border security and President Donald Trump's policy agenda. Vance said Texas is central to the administration's economic agenda and said Republicans had ended taxes on overtime, tips and Social Security.
Vance also criticized Democratic U.S. Senate candidate and state Rep. James Talarico over his positions on parental rights and children. Vance said Talarico called parents who protect their children from harm abusive, and said, "That is a man who has no morals." The Dallas Express reported that on May 13, 2025, Talarico voted for an amendment that would have treated parents' refusal to use preferred names or pronouns for transgender-identified children as child abuse. The House rejected it 54-82. The report also said Talarico supported a 2023 amendment to Senate Bill 14 that the House rejected 56-81, and later opposed the bill, which the House passed May 15, 2023.
Gill praised the Trump administration and encouraged Republicans to vote, saying, "Every one of you guys are here because you love this country." The rally came during the final days of early voting, which ends October 30. Election Day is November 3.
