The Sophienburg Museum and Archives in New Braunfels launched a new lecture series called History on Tap. At the first event on a Wednesday evening, attendees were served local beer and sausage while they heard a lecture by local author Travis Poling. The talk covered the history of Prohibition, beer and brewing in New Braunfels and the surrounding area.
The museum also opened a new exhibit, "A Funeral for Lady Liberty." The exhibit covers a funeral-style protest held on the plaza after a 1907 law closed bars on Sundays. The exhibit will be on display until next summer. A digital version will be added to sophienburg.com.
The next quarterly History on Tap is scheduled for March. The event was sponsored by New Braunfels Brewing and New Braunfels Smokehouse.
