At a monthly Morning Book Club at Poetic Republic Coffee in Southtown, parents and young children gathered for stories and conversation. The Imagination Library sponsored the event, which also introduces parents to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The program mails free, age-appropriate books to children from birth through age 5, one each month.

Faith Lowry said the books have become a regular part of family life. Her 3-year-old daughter, Tatum, recognizes the program's sticker on each package. Lowry said she first enrolled Tatum while the family lived in Washington, D.C., and later moved her enrollment to the San Antonio local affiliate. "Getting them for free is a huge service to all of us," Lowry said.

Organizers said the larger goal is to encourage parents and children to read together and to make books available to more young children across San Antonio. The local affiliate began enrolling children in April 2025. The nonprofit was incorporated in 2022, received its 501(c)(3) designation in 2024 and became an official local affiliate that year. Volpe, who is helping bring the program to the city, said she first learned of it from a flyer she received at a hospital after her first child was born in Georgia.
