A driver who died in a crash on the East Freeway on Monday morning had alcohol containers in the vehicle, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said. The office said the driver was traveling westbound on I-10 East at a high rate of speed when they lost control and hit a wall just before the Monmouth Drive exit.

The sheriff's office said the vehicle flipped several times and the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected. Investigators also found alcohol containers scattered on the roadway from when the vehicle rolled over.

The sheriff's office concluded that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. The crash closed the freeway for at least two hours. It reopened at about 5 a.m.
