A man wanted on a felony grand jury indictment warrant was arrested at Gary Elementary School in Panola County on Thursday, according to the Panola County Sheriff's Office. Gary ISD placed the campus on a soft lockdown protocol after the arrest.
The sheriff's office said a caller riding a horse along County Road 176 reported around 10:45 a.m. that a vehicle swerved as if to strike her. The office said the caller and the driver had a verbal argument during the call. The driver told deputies he was headed to the school to have lunch with his children, the office said.
Deputies found the driver, identified as Jacob Spurlock of Gladewater, at the campus. A records check showed an active warrant for assault on a family member by impeding breath, the sheriff's office said. The office said Spurlock became combative when deputies tried to escort him outside to arrest him. Deputies took him into custody after a brief struggle and transported him.
