Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said SWAT officers buy doors with their own money to practice breaching. He gave the example during a tour of the department's training facilities for the program Let's Talk Midterms, hosted by Sarah Zubiate Bennett.

Comeaux said growing recruit classes force instructors to split firearms training across multiple days. The tour also showed range buildings that are deteriorating and training structures that officers built themselves. "I'm trying to put together the best team possible, and we need facilities to do that," he said.

The city's $443 million Proposition A would help fund a new police academic center, a separate public safety training complex and other facilities. Dallas City Council Member Cara Mendelsohn (District 12) opposes the bond, citing debt and spending safeguards. Early voting runs through October 30, and Election Day is November 3.
