Forecasters at NewsChannel 10 in Amarillo said strong to severe thunderstorms are possible late tonight into early Monday morning. They said abundant moisture and strong wind shear, along with an approaching upper-level disturbance, could help storms form.
The storms are expected to develop in New Mexico late tonight and move east across much of the area, including Amarillo, overnight. Storms could begin forming around 9 to 10 p.m. CST and move from west to east, possibly lasting into the Monday morning commute.
The main threats forecasters named are hail about one inch in diameter, wind gusts up to 75 mph and an isolated tornado. Residents are urged to follow updates as the system moves through the area.
