The Horizon Road bridge over Interstate 30 in Rockwall will close in both directions at 10 p.m. Friday and stay closed until 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting, according to the city of Rockwall. Crews will use the weekend to build temporary connections to new lanes on the bridge.
If work stays on schedule, the bridge will reopen Monday morning with additional lanes available. Drivers should use alternate routes and allow extra travel time. TxDOT has not listed specific detours. Closure updates are available at DriveTexas.org.
The work is part of TxDOT's $348 million I-30 expansion from State Highway 205 to the Hunt County line, expected to be completed by early 2028. The bridge is being rebuilt in stages, with traffic shifted to new lanes on the east side while crews work on the west side. When complete, the bridge is expected to have three lanes in each direction, two U-turn lanes and sidewalks on both sides.
