VFW Post 6899 in Trinity presented a special award to Lanora Ainsworth on Oct. 6 at her home on Elizabeth Street. The award recognized 36 years of service to the organization and her work for the wider Trinity community, including the Community Fair, the Trinity Volunteer Fire Department and Head Start, according to the report.

Ainsworth is 94 and has lived in Trinity for 47 years. She was born in Hardeman County and moved to Trinity after her husband, Charles Ainsworth, retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1979. She joined the VFW Auxiliary in 1990 and was later elected treasurer, serving five years. She also held several other elected positions, including vice president and historian.

The report said Ainsworth and the Ladies Auxiliary sold poppies to raise money for injured and disabled veterans.
