At its Thursday meeting, the Trinity City Council approved changes to city ordinances on construction and renovation requirements and on noise from heavy equipment. An ordinance covering permit fees, contractor requirements and enforcement passed unanimously.

Code Enforcement Officer Cliff Prestwood said many of the changes bring city law in line with state law. The changes also add inspections to ensure the water system is not contaminated. Prestwood said the city has not reviewed its permitting and administration fees since 1997, though state law requires fees to be adopted every 10 years.

A separate ordinance limits use of heavy equipment, such as trenchers and horizontal borers, to weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Prestwood said the rule would also save the city money, because Public Works crews would not be called out at all hours when contractors break water or sewer mains. City Manager Tracy Hutto said the city has contracted with 811 and will require a utility locate before any excavation.

The council also discussed a preliminary online survey by the Economic Development Corp. The early results show residents want more jobs and more retail options, particularly cafes.
