The Railroad Commission (RRC) issued a total of 816 original drilling permits in October 2026. Of those, 742 were to drill new oil or gas wells, 12 were to re-enter plugged wellbores, 60 were for recompletions and 2 were reclassifications.
By well type, the permits were 143 oil, 71 gas, 532 oil and gas, 39 injection, 9 service and 22 other. Commission staff processed 869 oil, 359 gas and 68 injection completions during the month, according to the RRC.
