Donna police said Eddie Lorenzo Garcia, a former Donna ISD teacher, was arrested and charged with possession or promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child, a state jail felony, and criminal trespass, a Class B misdemeanor. He was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on November 4 and released the next day on bonds totaling $10,000, or $5,000 for each charge.
Police said the investigation began September 14, when officers responded to a report that two adult males had entered a residence without the homeowner's consent. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage, conducted interviews, executed search warrants and examined digital evidence. Donna ISD police helped secure devices and send them to Donna police. Police encouraged parents to talk with their children about online safety and to report suspected criminal activity.
District spokeswoman Nelda Calderon said Garcia was allowed to resign before his arrest and that the district took immediate administrative action after learning of the initial allegations. The district said it will not provide more details to protect the investigation. It did not identify the campus where Garcia taught. Online records show he had worked for the district since the 2019-20 school year. His Texas teaching certificate for Business and Finance, held since 2017, is under review by the Texas Education Agency.
