The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is asking Texans to help end a streak of daily traffic deaths. According to TxDOT, someone has died on Texas roads every day since Nov. 7, 2000, and more than 95,000 people have been killed in traffic crashes since then.

Beginning Nov. 7, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers will hand out safe driving tips during traffic stops for two weeks. The tips include buckling up, avoiding distractions, driving safe speeds, getting a sober ride, and moving over or slowing down.

TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams said, "Everyone has so many reasons why they want to get home safely. Remember, so does every driver around you." Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee said everyday decisions behind the wheel can make the difference between life and death.
