A strong cold front moving across Texas is expected to bring storms to the Houston area on Tuesday, Election Day, according to the KPRC 2 Weather Team. The team said the front could affect people voting from noon to 6 p.m., though a severe storm and flood threat are unlikely.
The team said a broken line of storms is expected to reach the Houston area around noon. Storms are not expected to have a major impact before 10 or 11 a.m., so the team advised voters who want to avoid them to go early. Between noon and 4 p.m., the front is expected to move through the area. Some stronger storms could bring quick, heavy downpours, so the team said voters standing in line should bring an umbrella or rain jacket.
By 7 p.m., when polls close, the team said rain should have moved out of the Houston area, though storms may linger along the coast. Forecasters said rain totals look manageable. They said any storm could produce a quick heavy downpour and brief minor street flooding, and an isolated storm with gusty winds cannot be ruled out.
