Angela Temple, Monica Kidder and Gina Collins, all from the South Plains, have finished an international marathon that runs from Michigan to Canada. The women did not know each other a few years ago and were not runners before they trained together.
The three signed up for the Detroit Free Press International Marathon in January. They trained together all year with a marathon coach. Collins said each runner followed an individual plan. The women did not finish together, but they waited for each other to celebrate. Temple said she cried when she saw Kidder shortly after finishing.
The women said they want to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Temple said qualifying times get longer as runners get older, and the group is in their 50s. Temple said her personal goal is to qualify after she turns 60, in about four years. She said the group hopes to do so within the next five to six years. Kidder and Collins encouraged people thinking about running to start.
