Republican U.S. Senate nominee Ken Paxton held a rally Sunday at Republic Icehouse in Tyler, less than 48 hours before Election Day. He described his platform, which includes passing the SAVE America Act and making Trump Accounts permanent. He also spoke about his Democratic opponent, state Rep. James Talarico, and said the race could help decide which party controls the U.S. Senate for years to come.
Paxton said the choice is between an America that runs on Texas oil and gas and a Green New Deal that would end industries he said have built the state. He also said the choice is between a Supreme Court that follows the Constitution and one he described as packed with radicals. The stop was part of his "Come and Take It" bus tour across Texas. A Tyler stop planned for last month was canceled because of a visit to Texas by Vice President JD Vance.
Protesters gathered outside the event. Susan White, who said she has been a Republican for many years, said she changed her vote up and down the ballot. "Truth matters, and character matters," she said.
