A former Bowie County correctional officer, Michael Alexander Flores, 21, is alleged to have left a handcuff key within easy reach of an inmate at a local emergency room, helping the inmate escape.

The inmate is identified as Omarion Lamon Owens, 22. Flores is alleged to have told Owens that he was leaving his Bowie County job for work in "the oilfield."
