Pleasant Grove High School seniors Daniel Ayers and junior Mason Fry started Apex Mobile Detailing last spring, in Texarkana. They said they committed half of their earnings to raising $5,000 for computers at JHP Skola, a technical high school in Puok village near Siem Reap, Cambodia. The boys sent the check just before the school year began, and the school ordered the equipment. According to the students, the computers were installed about a week ago. A plaque at the school names the space the Daniel Ayers and Mason Fry Computer Lab.
Daniel's great-uncle lives in Cambodia and works at the school. Daniel and Mason are both members of Pleasant Grove's state-ranked robotics team. The boys first considered a GoFundMe campaign, but said international restrictions made that difficult, so they saved the money themselves.
"It was rewarding to send the check off and see how excited the students and faculty were," Daniel said. "The students may never know who those two guys on the plaque are, but hopefully they know that someone thousands of miles away cared about their futures."
