Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers, died this week at the age of 96. She worked to improve conditions for laborers in the nation's fruit and vegetable fields and coined the rallying cry "Sí Se Puede." Into her 90s, she spoke in cities across the country about race, poverty, LGBTQ+ issues and women's rights.

Huerta was based in California, but Rebecca Flores, a former head of the Texas chapter of the United Farm Workers, said her impact was felt in Texas. Flores said many people have posted photos they took with Huerta in remembrance of her death.

Flores said Huerta was instrumental in passing the Agricultural Labor Relations Act in California. Flores also said Huerta's work served as an example for organizers in Texas, including Flores, who began organizing farm workers in South Texas along the Mexican border in 1977.
